Coin Number 3

This is one of the nicer examples of the famed Nine Leaf reverse, a die pairing with only 20 to 22 pieces known in all. This one is in the mid range of those graded and is ranked as number 11 in the Census by Anthony Taraszka. Gorgeous old coppery gold toning is found around the periphery, and the strike is sharp on the devices. Precious few of these prized Nine Leaf reverse coins can offer the eye appeal and desirable toning found on this example, which keeps the eye appeal high. The technical grade is probably closer to AU-58, but was limited by some minor surface scratches below the eagles right wing in the field. One of the most popular of all early eagles for its naked eye discernible variety and well known rarity. A key to this popular and sought-after series.
