Coin Number 23

This is one of the toughest dates to find of the entire Capped Bust eagle series. The 1800 dated eagles are nearly as rare as those dated 1796 or 1804. This one shows resplendent luster and mint frost and is certainly one of the top dozen or so known of this date. The strike is sharp on all the devices, and the surfaces are undisturbed other than by a few tiny ticks. The obverse die shows the ever present crack along the tops of LIBERTY and star 7 is boldly repunched. The reverse die was used to strike the prior 1799 BD-10, Taraszka-22 variety, and goes on to strike more eagles in 1801. A powerful example of this sought after date and a delightful coin in every way.
