Coin Number 25

Here is a glittering near gem that offers bold luster, a crisp and complete strike and stunning surfaces. Even the usually seen soft stars are fairly bold here, a feature seldom seen on this type, especially so for the stars above the eagle’s head. On this obverse die, star eight is near the cap, nearly touching at two points. The last star, number 13, is quite close to the drapery on Liberty’s bust. At long last, after three years, the prior reverse die has been retired and a new reverse die is used to coin this die pairing. The star just enters the eagle’s mouth, and the top beak appears to just miss touching one point. This particular coin is well balanced for a mint state piece, with ample visual appeal and clean surfaces. It would be hard to find a nicer example from these dies.
