Here again, the workhorse obverse die is mated with yet another new reverse die, the fifth of the year so far. On this reverse, the engraver used much larger stars above the eagle, employing a bolder punch to engrave the die. This variety has always been popular with collectors, not for the Large Stars, but for the extra tiny star which is found on top of the right most cloud above the eagle. Its almost as though the smaller star punch was delicately tapped into this cloud as a test. It is believed that famed collector Harry Bass, Jr., discovered this additional star on the cloud. Perhaps 90 to 110 of these are known, and they have always been popular with collectors for this additional star feature. Here is one of the nicer examples known.
