A fully mint state example of this final year of the swept back hair, nearly covering Liberty’s ear. The other notable design element is the truncation line of her neck, with is formed with an elegant curl and ending in a sharp point below her neck. This feature was flattened out significantly later in 1839, and her swept back hair was removed and gently curled instead. This is one of the finest examples to survive in Mint State, with inviting luster, clean surfaces that show just a few shallow ticks, and a bold strike. The color is a medium yellow gold with a few trivial signs of copper toning on the reverse. A wonderfully original example of this elusive and sought after type.
