Coin Number 56

This is the finest known example of this date. The surfaces and visual appeal are simply off the charts for what many consider to be a common issue. Despite a mintage of 862,258 pieces, and with around 800 known today, the survival ratio is actually pretty dismal. That would translate into one survivor for every thousand struck. This one, from the Eliasberg Collection, stands tall as the sole MS-64 yet graded, a full grade point finer than any other 1847 eagle. Glorious frost on the devices, rich golden luster and a bold strike. The fields are of outstanding quality and eye appeal.
