Coin Number 60

A sparkling jewel which offers satin smooth devices, virtually mark free fields and original mint color. The strike is sharp and this is a classic example of Philadelphia’s coining expertise. There is a thin die crack on the reverse down through the right side of the A in STATES through the beak, down near the left point of the shield and out the lower reverse through the left serifs of the E in TEN. This coin was likely struck with newly received California gold, as the Gold Rush there was just gathering steam.
