Cert #8613 4658103
Coin Number 72
This could be the finest known example of this date, and is likely undergraded in its current old green holder. The luster is especially satiny with bright yellow gold with a hint of green. The strike is bold on all the stars, right down to the central curl on Liberty’s ear. Outstanding quality and eye appeal for this date, which is seldom found in any mint state grade. The date logotype is that used on the Large Cents of 1854, with the slanted 5 attributed to Chief Engraver Longacre’s touch with a little flair. On this die variety there is some repunching of the date below the 18 in the dentils, and the first star nearly touches the edge.
