Coin Number 75

This radiant jewel is rather new to the population of 1854-S $10s as it came from Latin America and was sold by the Kagin’s a few years back. It is tied with no more than three others at this grade level for the date, and none are finer. The fields and surfaces are of excellent quality, showing scarcely any handling marks or chatter. This is the first year of issue from the new San Francisco Mint, using of course the ample supply of gold flowing out of the rivers, fields and streams nearby. The “S” mintmark is large and placed well to the right of the normal mintmark postion used for the New Orleans “O” mintmark above the N of TEN.
