Coin Number 76

This is likely the sole and finest example of this date to survive. Although an adequate mintage of over 121,000 pieces is noted, precious few were saved at the time of issue. This one is the finest seen by PCGS, and although NGC’s Census notes a single MS-65, it is possibly this same coin, or perhaps another one that is quite conditionally similar. Radiant mint luster on both sides, near perfect surfaces, fields, and devices, with a bold strike. Here again the slanted 55 is a hallmark of Chief Engraver James B. Longacre. For identification, there is a thin minor slag line on the lower reverse created during the planchet rolling process so long ago.
