Cert # SSCA6964

Coin Number 85

Another low mintage date and mint with a mere 26,000 pieces struck. This one is right at the top of those known with a couple of others, one in MS-64 and the finest a half notch higher at MS-64+. NGC has not graded any finer than MS-63 of this issue. Perhaps 100 exist in all grades today. This example happened to catch the ill fated S.S. Central America on its way to New York, but failed to arrive in late 1857 due to the horrific hurricane the ship crossed into on its voyage. Hence, this one has survived much the same as the day it left port in 1857, with satiny near gem luster, glorious surfaces, and unending eye appeal.
