This is one of the finer examples of about a dozen to 14 Proofs known for this date and denomination. The Cameo contrast adds considerably to the eye appeal, as the boldly mirrored fields seem to fall away into the depths of infinity while the frosted devices stand tall over this feature. A couple of lintmarks are present, common to these early proofs where the dies were carefully wiped with a cloth, sometimes leaving behind a tiny thread or two on the dies. One is seen just past the D. on the reverse on this piece. Needless to say the eye appeal is off the charts here, with stunning contrast, near gem surfaces, and classic original orange-gold toning on both sides. It would be hard to fathom a more appealing example of this rarely seen early proof gold coin.
