Cert #8636 30131716
Coin Number 102
This is the finest 1862-S eagle known. It is the only true mint state coin from this issue known. The original mintage of 12,500 pieces has been reduced to about 65 known today. This is the most intact example there is. Natural orange gold color and a bold strike. As expected there are scattered minor scuffs from handling, but no evidence of circulation, which really sets this coin head and shoulders above all the others known. This coin walked in to the Sacramento ANA Money Show nearly a decade ago, owned by a single family for many, many years. It was sold at auction in 2011 and tucked away. The mintmark is placed well to the right above the space between TEN and D.
