Coin Number 103
Outstanding contrast between the frosted cameo devices and the mirror fields, although not proclaimed a “cameo” as it was graded by PCGS prior to that designation being used. The depth of the frost on the devices is simply stunning, and the mirror fields are highly reflective but do show scattered faint ticks. Like the 1862 in Proof herein, there are between 12 and 14 of these Proofs known. Most are about the equal or so to this regal jewel, and these are some of the most elegant coins ever produced by our Mint. Struck during the depth of the Civil War, when the outcome was not at all certain.
