Cert # 5055408-004
Coin Number 110
This is one of top six known if not even higher. There is a single MS-63 reported by PCGS in their Population Report. This one is a true mint state coin with a sharper than usual strike. Many of the 50 or so survivors of this issue show considerable striking softness on the central hair and long lovelock on Liberty’s neck. Most are prooflike as seen here, which magnifies the normal small handling marks in the fields, while the frosty devices retain much of the original mint bloom and appeal. One of the finest examples recovered from the S.S. Republic shipwreck. Only 3,980 were struck, and as is typical all but a small group disappeared by time, melting and attrition.
