Coin Number 300

Exceptional contrast for this first year of the reappearance of the Arrows at the date on half dollars (1873-74). A scant 550 pieces were struck and this is one of the very few that offers the Deep Cameo contrast, best of all the quality is amazing as well. To date, PCGS has only graded one coin with the Deep Cameo designation of this proof issue, and this is it. That confirms the general rarity of the depth of contrast here. Notice how the mirror fields seem to fall away from the devices which show an amazing quantity of frost on them. Fine and close examination will discover parts of the drapery polished off below Liberty’s left elbow, and the area from her chin down to her shoulder is white and frosty, where it should be polished and reflective.
