Coin Number 302

Here is a satiny white gem that shows strong eye appeal and creamy mint surfaces throughout. The strike is bold on all the devices, and the open fields are pristine. Notice how the arrows turn up a tiny bit with their points, seeming to smile around the date itself. The drapery under Liberty’s left elbow is thin and has been partially lapped away by die polish. As 1874 drew to a close, the Arrows were to be removed starting in 1875 and the planchets continued at their slightly revised weight of 12.5 grams (192 grains standard from February 1853 to early 1873, then changed to 192.9 grains).
