Demand for eagles in 1876 must have been really low as only 687 pieces were struck! Of that meager group, today only 42 or so remain extant. This is the finest one seen by PCGS, the only Mint State example they have seen. NGC reports on example of this date in mint state as MS-61 Prooflike. The coin here has outstanding surfaces, no major marks, just typical light scuffing in the prooflike fields. Many today consider worthy of a higher technical grade. An epic example of this sought after date, and quite a pretty coin to boot.
