Charles I, Stuart King 1625-1649

Oxford mint. “1644 OX” below banner. Plume initial mark. Shoulder-length, crowned portrait facing left, holding sword and olive branch; reverse, Declaration on three slightly curved lines. Rare.

A very beautiful and lustrous coin having very little actual wear, on a full broad flan showing sharp, complete legends and almost all rim beading, the king’s image unusually fine, the reverse essentially fully struck, the surfaces very choice and sheathed in rich gold toning; an exceptional example.
