Conrad II, King of Italy 1024-1039

Unlisted; cf. Berghaus 23, 24, PCGS-graded AU-58

Obverse depicts emperor head left with a cross on the reverse. Unevenly struck but still clearly detailed and well centered.

Conrad II was both Holy Roman Emperor and king of Italy. He founded the Salian dynasty, which ruled the empire for over a century. He was more interested in building up the importance of the church, and to this end appointed religious leaders to important secular positions. His rule was fortunately for him, a peaceful time, allowing him to institute his reforms.
