Charles IV, King of Naples and Sicily 1516-1554
Fr-831, PCGS-graded MS-64
Very rare; a beautiful and especially choice example of this coin, with a sharp even strike, and lovely gold color.
Ruler of both the Holy Roman Empire from 1519 and the Spanish Empire (as Charles I of Spain) from 1516, also of the former Duchy of Burgundy from 1506, Carlo as king of Naples surrendered all of his positions in a series of abdications between 1554 and 1556: his empire had expanded so much that it unmanageable. Stylistically this coin is a classic of the Renaissance.
