Ludovico Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan 1494-1499
Fr-698; Crippa 1/B; MIR 228/1, PCGS-graded MS-63
Bold details and a wonderful, classic portrait on this very rare coin.
By heavily taxing his subjects, Ludovico invested in agriculture, horse and cattle breeding, and the metal and silk industries. His achievements included civil and military engineering such as canals and fortifications, continued work on the Cathedral of Milan, and enlarging the streets of Milan adorned with gardens. The 2-ducati coin is also known as a gold double testones, reflecting the wealth of this period.
