Michele Steno, Doge of Venice 1400-1413

Fr-1230, NGC-graded MS-67

Obverse depicts St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge. On the reverse Christ standing facing within stars, holding the gospel and raising hand in benediction. A magnificent ducat glowing with luster.

Michele Steno got off to a good start as Doge in 1400, prosecuting a successful war against Padua, which significantly increased Venice’s land holdings. Unfortunately, soon after, the Doge took ill, and accomplished little thereafter.
