Tomaso Mocenigo, Doge of Venice 1413-1423

Fr-1231, NGC-graded MS-67

Obverse depicts St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge. On the reverse Christ standing facing within stars, holding the gospel and raising hand in benediction. Another gorgeous ducat.

Mocenigo was a surprisingly good Doge. He greatly encouraged commerce, reconstructed the Ducal palace and built an excellent library. He defeated the patriarch of Aquilea and added much territory to the Venetian state.
