Antonio Grimani, Doge of Venice 1521-1523

Fr-1244, PCGS-graded MS-62

Obverse depicts St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge. On the reverse Christ standing facing within stars, holding the gospel and raising hand in benediction. Very rare; not fully detailed from dies lacking sharpness but choice for this issue.

Grimani rose from poverty but was exiled for maritime losses, returning to Venice near the end of his life and becoming Doge. In this brief reign, a half-ducat was also issued, for only the second time.
