Naples
Ferdinand & Isabella, King and Queen of Naples and Sicily 1504
MIR 114; Fr-827, PCGS-graded AU-58
Very rare; ancient deposits and a nearly round flan, but the important dual portraits are a delight.
The Catholic Monarchs of Castile and Aragon famously unified Spain by their marriage in 1469. They financed the Genoese mariner Christopher Columbus, calling him Admiral of the Ocean Sea, leading to his discovery of the Americas and, in later centuries, to the generation of immense wealth from the New World for Spain. Queen Isabella died in 1504.
