Marino Morosini, Doge of Venice 1249-1253

Paolucci 1, PCGS-graded AU-53

Obverse depicts the Doge and St. Mark standing facing, holding a banner between them. On the reverse Christ enthroned. Ancient deposits detract little from the excellent centering of the design and sharp details.

Marino Morosini was one of four members of his family to be elected Doge. His four year rule was unexceptional with a desire for consolidation, not expansion governing his policies.
