Harthacnut, King of all England 1035-1042 AD
Bath mint, moneyer Waedell. Diademed portrait facing right; reverse, “jewel cross”, a cross composed of 4 ovals joined at the base by 2 circles enclosing a pellet. Very rare. Minted Spring to Autumn 1036, when Harthacnut was joint ruler with his illegitimate half-brother Harold.
A superb example of this briefly coined type, with a crisp portrait and jeweled cross, clear and complete legends, on a broad full flan of good metal showing complete beaded rims, and sheathed in ideal golden silvery gray patina.
