Henry VIII, Tudor King 1509-1547

London. Third coinage of 1544-1547. Crowned facing portrait wearing ruff; reverse, crowned Tudor rose, crowned H/R at sides. Initial mark Pellet in Annulet. Rare. One of the most difficult of all silver issues to locate, this specimen being superior to most.

Struck on a slightly oblong uneven flan with well-centered images but missing much of legends and showing a faint crack crossing through one of the king’s eyes, portrait somewhat double struck, reverse well detailed at center but initial mark obliterated, ancient greenish gray patina.
