Henry VIII, Tudor King 1509-1547
London. Third coinage of 1544-1547. Crowned, facing full-length image of the king enthroned, holding golden orb and scepter, Tudor rose at his feet, Pellet in Annulet mintmark; reverse, crowned shield supported by lion and dragon, Pellet in Annulet mintmark.
Well struck and centered for this notoriously ill-struck issue, the flan nearly round but seemingly unclipped and showing complete legends, the king’s upper image quite clear, areas of striking softness especially on reverse, choice surfaces showing old amber-gold toning.
