James I, Stuart King 1603-1625
Third Coinage of 1619-1625. Plumes over shield. Lis mintmark on each side. King crowned and in armor with sword over right shoulder, on draped horse trotting right; reverse, garnished royal shield, normal QVAE DEVS legend. Rare.
Struck on a superior, almost round flan, well detailed if slightly shadowy on the king’s image, choice surfaces, the legends all bold, sheathed in an especially pleasing and even gray toning with darker amber-tinged toning outlining much of the legends.
