John, Plantagenet King 1199-1216
Lincoln mint, moneyer Willelm. Central facing bearded portrait, crowned, holding scepter, legend in the name of Henry; reverse, small central (short) cross, quatrefoil in each angle, pommée cross at beginning of legend. Rare.
A fine example of this king’s penny, on an unusually large and full flan, his image perfectly centered, Short Cross and legends all clear, pleasing golden brown and gray patina.
