Nemfidius, AD 700-710
Cf. Prou 1586, Extremely Fine
Nemfidius served as Patriarch of Provence in the period c. 700-710. He is known primarily from a surviving list of five Patriarchs of Provence who held office between 690 and 730 and from deniers struck with his monogram. Almost nothing is known about his tenure as Patriarch beyond that he made a donation of property to the Abbey of St. Victor in Marseille. This was later seized by his successor, Antenor.
Marseille. Diademed head of Nemfidius right, cross before. Reverse: NEF monogram.
