Misr (Egypt) mint. Tughra; Reverse, mint and date. This coin is an example of the successful monetary reform introduced by Ahmad III. The weight is that of the Venetian gold ducat (sequin). The word zinjirli (“chain-like”) refers to the fine-linked border but the coin was affectionately known as funduq, (“hazelnut”). The port of Venice was known as the source of hazelnuts in the Mediterranean.
