Bahram II was son of Bahram I. His reign marks a turbulent time for the dynasty as rival princes and families begin a long power struggle to try to undermine the legitimacy of his reign. Bahram II was successful in maintaining his throne and keeping the power within the immediate members of the house of Sasan. His crown is decorated with the wings of victory. The power struggle that marks Bahram II reigns also continued at the time of his successor Narseh. Historical record and rock carvings commemorating Bahram’s victory show that many families of aristocratic origin were defeated and never heard from again.
