Perctarit, Lombardic Kings of Northern Italy 671-688
MEC 314, PCGS-graded MS-63
Obverse depicts a diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. On the reverse an Cross potent. Crude engraving style but a jewel of a coin!
Perctarit a Lombardic king, was a typical example of how the west had regressed into warring minor states. No more Rome, no more Ostrogothic Empire, just one small city-state warring with another. Benevento, Trent, Lombardia, just three examples of many autonomous tribes.
