Francesco Erizzo, Doge of Venice 1631-1646
Fr-1310, PCGS-graded MS-64
Obverse depicts St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge. On the reverse Christ standing facing within stars, holding the gospel and raising hand in benediction. Struck from very worn dies, losing some detail.
Francesco Erizzo, would have had a peaceful rule, except for the appearance of the bubonic plague, which killed 1/3 the inhabitants of the city. Venice then scaled back its foreign entanglements and concentrated on rebuilding the commerce of the city.
