Obverse depicts St. Mark standing right presenting banner to kneeling Doge. On the reverse Christ standing facing within stars, holding the gospel and raising hand in benediction. Struck from aged dies, reverse scratched.
Ludovico Manin was the last Doge of Venice. Attacked by Napoleonic forces in 1797, the once great city-state surrendered to the far superior French army. The long history of the Venetian Republic came to an ignominious end.
